Hello, my name is Laura, and I'm not a good commenter.

Really, it's harder than you think. When you comment you want to say something interesting and maybe a bit witty, but sometimes all you can think of is "yes" or "dude, you are sooooo wrong." And I can't comment like that. I want to be a good commenter. So I sit there with the comment window open while I try to think of something to say. I have been commenting a lot more though, so I'm proud of myself. But really, this is not something I should stress out about. Especially when I have to finish like 4 workshops by either Sunday or Monday, and I haven't started really.

Abortion Commenting Time-you are warned
I commented on Blogging Baby today (yes, I read that stuff now). They asked if becoming a parents has changed your mind about abortion? Most people are saying that it's only inforced their pro-choice beliefs, although there are a few who disagree or who are personally pro-life while being pro-choice for everyone else. I think that if our country got rid of abortion, they'd still happen. But the conditions would be unsanitary, the people performing the abortions wouldn't be doctors, and women would also do it themselves with coat hangers, ODing on aspirin, etc. So really, the baby would probably die, but the woman has a good chance of not living or being permanently damaged as well. And that is just sad. I certainly don't think that women should use abortion as birth control, and we should continue to push for abstinence, birth control use, etc in school and elseware. I think it was a pretty good comment, but it took me about 20 minutes to write.

I told my mom about this discussion, and she commented as well. I read her comment, totally agreeing with her, then I realized it was her. haha We think very similarly on the topic, which I guess makes sense since she raised me. She has a problem with the term pro-life because the opposite is pro-death, and a pro-choice person isn't a pro-death person. I couldn't agree more. Ignoring the whole when does life begin debate (I personally think it's pretty late, but the hubby is Catholic and thinks it starts at or near conception), why does someone who thinks others have a right to decide what happens to their bodies suddenly pro-death. This isn't about death, it's about no one being able to tell you what you can and cannot do to yourself. People also die getting cosmetic surgery, but do we care about that? No! Since the tiny little creature that isn't even remotely a baby yet cannot speak for itself (nor can it take care of itself or think for itself), we must defend it? It's like defending an insect to me.

I'm going off on a tangent now. I didn't mean to freak out over abortion, but it is certainly something I feel strongly about. Eh, now I'm going to get those comments that I hate, arguing with me even though I'm never going to change my mind. I guess that's my fault for bringing up such a topic during National Delurk Week.
